Every year in October, numerous Alpine municipalities gather to celebrate the bread and food of the Alps in a cross-border event known as "Lo Pan Ner." For this occasion, ancient ovens are lit, traditional bread is baked and various activities related to the region are organized.
Among the municipalities that joined the event, Darfo Boario Terme, located in the Val Camonica region, involved historical local businesses and small local producers. Moreover, during Lo Pan Ner, old mills are reopened, highlighting the flavours and ingredients of the region: rye flour and malt extract. The Camonica Valley is not suited to cultivating wheat, the main grain crop, but it is ideal for cultivating lesser-known grains that better adapt to the local climate, such as rye, barley, and buckwheat.
Barley malt extract is another distinctive ingredient of this area, especially thanks to Diamalteria Italiana, a historic local company founded in the late 19th century in Darfo Boario Terme, Brescia, producing natural malt-based ingredients. Thanks to the municipality of Darfo Boario Terme, Diamalteria Italiana had the opportunity to participate in the Lo Pan Ner event, opening its doors to the public.
During this event, the participants visited the factory and learned about its history and its products.
A large turnout was recorded from the citizens of Darfo Boario Terme and nearby towns, and all participants showed great interest and enthusiasm for the initiative.
This event gave Diamalteria Italiana the chance to further connect with the community of Darfo Boario Terme and its citizens.
